Why I Am a Social Security Disability Lawyer
Back in the early 1980s, I worked as a young paralegal for a legal services program that provided free legal help to economically disadvantaged people in Eastern Kentucky.
I frequently worked with recently disabled people, helping them understand the often-complex Social Security regulations and file and pursue their disability claims.
It was a real eye-opener. People who were genuinely disabled, people who could not work even though they wanted to, proud people who deserved benefits, were being denied by the Social Security Administration. I was stunned and frustrated.
I took that comparatively low-paying position because I wanted to help deserving, underserved people, and I realized I was limited by my lack of formal legal training and the bureaucratic obstacles the SSA put in place.
So I decided I could be of much greater service if I went back to school, earned a law degree, and became a disability attorney who could take a claim through the administrative hearings and all the way to federal court if necessary.
In 1985, I moved to Louisville to attend the University of Louisville School of Law, and since passing the bar, I have concentrated my practice on Social Security disability law. Am I happy with that decision? You bet I am. I help people, I change lives, and I help keep families intact.
What I Do Differently
I am Attorney Greg Marks, and I represent Social Security Disability claimants. Other attorneys and non-attorneys offer to help you win your claim, but I believe in personal service.
If you call my office, I will answer your questions. When you come to my office, I will meet with you, not a staff member.
If your case goes to a hearing before an Administrative Law Judge, as many claims do, I will be the one who goes with you to that hearing. That is what personally serving you means to me.

Fees and What to Expect
Greg Marks offers a free, no-obligation claim evaluation and consultation, and he works on a contingency fee. For Social Security Disability and SSI claims, the fee is 25% of past-due (back) benefits, subject to the cap set by the Social Security Administration, and it is paid only if your claim is approved.
If you are approaching age 62, he can also explain the option of drawing early retirement benefits while your disability claim is pending, and he encourages clients to keep up regular medical treatment and, where appropriate, to look into programs such as SNAP and Medicaid during the process. Clients work directly with Greg by phone, and office hours are Monday through Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
